The Ontario Poetry Society Presents
The Ghastly Gruesome Poetry Contest
Open to Everyone

Prizes:
First Prize - $100 Second Prize - $75 Third Prize - $50
Plus 24 Honourable Mention Awards
All cash prizes paid in Canadian dollars
All prize winning poems will be published in a chapbook anthology.
Every winner will receive one free copy of the book.

Rules and Guidelines:
Poems to be on the themes of Crime and Horror.
All styles of poems are welcome.
Previously published poems that have never won a contest prize are accepted as long as the author owns the copyright.

Topics may include: Crimes such as murder, assault, arson, fraud, road rage,
theft (identity, bank robbery, personal loss from theft), cat burglars
drug dealers, money laundering / counterfeiters / forgery, gun runners,
scammers by telephone or e-mail, abduction / kidnapping,
hijacking (electronics, airplanes, or ships and carjacking).
Horror such as the walking dead, zombies, monsters, vampires, alien invaders, hair-raising things like an eerie clown or creepy doll,
evil ghost or spirit, voodoo, black magic, your worst nightmare.

No foul language.
Excessive blood and gore needs to be written as a simile or in metaphor.

Poem layout should be no longer than 36 lines.
Spaces between stanzas count as lines.
No more than 50 characters on a line. Spaces between words not included.
Poems must be printed on one side of 8 1/2" by 11" paper.
Author ID & theme not to be anywhere on the same page as the poem, front or back.

Cover page must include author name, complete postal mailing address,
including apt. #, postal code, telephone number and e-mail if applicable.
Poem titles or first lines of poems to be listed vertically down the page.

Contest Deadline Extended: Submissions to be postmarked on or before September 15, 2022.

Contest Entry Fee: $10 for up to 5 poems. Additional poems $2 each.
There is no limit to the number of submissions.
