Winners of The Poeteer Award
Selected by our judge, Elana Wolff

1st Place:
Keith Inman
Mirette
A delightful name. The new form is demanding,
but the rules are clear and the poems "Famine's Feast"
and "That Sweet Fermenting Nectar" are lyrical and engaging.
The challenge is aural, structural, and semantic.

2nd Place:
Ken Budnark
Poetry in the Absurd or Poetry in the Rogue
This new form is feisty and imaginative.
The 'rules' present a challenge to let go, transgress
and experiment. The poem "Dauntless Jack Cracker" is
entertaining and well put together. It shows that a poem
can be anarchic in spirit yet controlled in execution.

3rd Place:
Wendy Bourke
The Iron-Hinged Poem
This form honours the historicity of poetic tradition.
It is rooted in old forms while carefully delineating new rules.
The poem "Sweet Serenity" is heartfelt, spiritual, and decorous.
The challenge of this form is to 'soar with a weight'- to express
the opening-out of epiphany.

All rules and example poems penned by the winners
will be featured in a centerfold spread sheet
in the Sept., 2015 issue of Verse Afire.
